Crystal Crag

This peak has been one of our favorites so far. There are many things contributing to this including the crazy short and easy approach from the car (just shy of an hour), and the top portion is purely made of white crystal rock which is rare and im not sure if you could see this any where else on a peak.

Crystal Crag is literally 4 miles from the town of Mammoth Lakes with what we'd say has the easiest access of any alpine rock face we have encountered. It is still early season so there was quite a bit of snow covering up the trail but was easy to navigate our way through. The route goes up right above the footprints in the picture below and is somewhere around 3 pitches of 5.6 and mixed 4th class scrambling towards the top.

Here is where the route gets really cool and you get to climb over pure white crystal rock. Now if only the whole thing was made out of this stuff!

From Car to summit it took us just a bit over 3hours leaving us time to hurry on down and grab a local brew made by Mammoth Brewing Company. OH SO TASTY!

Next: Bear Creek Spire, in ONE day. Can we do it?! Stay tuned to find out.
